Halco – Laser Pro 160DD

The Laser Pro 160 by Halco Tackle boasts the latest in lure technology, incorporating strength, durability and fish-catching ability. The outer body has extra-secure hook anchoring and towing points that are built-in as an integral part of the lure body. Halco’s bulletproof bib securing system provides added strength and ensures the Laser Pro 160 has faultless swimming performance at high and low speeds.

A great blue-water trolling lure, the Laser Pro 160 can be trolled over a wide speed band, its optimum speed for trolling for pelagics is around 6.5 knots. Troll lures at distances ranging from 10–50 metres from the boat. About 25 metres is normal. Troll more than one lure at once to increase your chances, and emulate a school of fish. When trolling for toothy pelagics, such as mackerel, remember to use a Halco Snap or Supa Snap Trace.

Always troll your lures at different distances from the boat. Not only does this cover more area, but it also avoids tangles when turning the boat, as the closer lure will pass under the further lure during the turn. The Laser Pro 160 is the most popular lure of the classic Laser Pro range and comes in either standard (1m), deep diver (2m+), or extra deep diver (6.1m) versions.

Techniques for Fishing:

1. Trolling: The Halco Laser Pro is often used for trolling. Adjust the trolling speed based on the target species and water conditions. Vary the depth by using different sinking versions or adding weight to your line.

2. Jerking and Twitching: When casting, employ a jerking or twitching action during retrieval. Mimic an injured baitfish by giving the lure sudden, erratic movements to trigger predatory instincts.

3. Pause and Drop: After a few steady cranks, pause the retrieval occasionally. This allows the lure to sink momentarily, imitating a wounded fish. Be ready for strikes during the drop.

4. Vary Retrieval Speed: Experiment with different retrieval speeds. Sometimes a fast retrieve can trigger aggressive strikes, while a slower pace might entice more cautious fish.

5. Change Colors: If the bite is slow, try switching to a different color pattern. Fish can be selective, and a color change might make your lure more appealing.

6. Target Structure: Focus on areas with underwater structures like drop-offs, reefs, and submerged vegetation. The Halco Laser Pro is effective at different depths, so adapt your approach based on the structure you're targeting.
